Frequently asked questions
What print sizes are available?
Small
– A6 / 10.5 × 14.8 cm — postcard-sized, ideal for shelves, gallery walls or desks
– A5 / 14.8 × 21 cm — compact, suits small spaces and multi-print arrangements
Medium
– A4 / 21 × 29.7 cm — the most versatile size; works as a standalone piece or in a set
– 20 × 20 cm or 29.7 × 29.7 cm — square format, available on selected prints
Large
– A3 / 29.7 × 42 cm — a strong statement piece for a living room, bedroom or hallway
– 50 × 50 cm — large square format, available on selected prints
Extra Large
– A2 / 42 × 59.4 cm — bold and eye-catching; best suited to a clear, uncluttered wall
Some prints are also offered in a 5" × 7" imperial size, which fits standard photo frames widely available on the high street.
How do I choose the right print size for my room?
– A6 or A5: shelves, gallery walls, desks, small alcoves
– A4 or 20 × 20 cm: bedside tables, above a mantelpiece, in a narrow hallway, or as part of a gallery wall
– A3 or 29.7 × 29.7 cm: a feature wall above a sofa or bed, a dining room, or a home office
– A2 or 50 × 50 cm: a large, relatively empty wall where you want one strong focal point
A useful tip: cut a piece of newspaper or card to your chosen size and hold it against the wall before ordering. This lets you see the footprint in your actual space before committing.
What framing options are available?
– Black wood frame
– Light (natural) wood frame
– White wood frame
Frames are designed to hold the print without a mat (mount board). If you prefer a frame-and-mat combination, buying the print unframed and sourcing your own frame gives you the most control over finish and proportions.
If you are buying a frame separately, check that its stated image opening (rebate size) matches your print size — not just the outer frame dimensions.
What is the difference between outer frame size and image size?
Outer frame size: the total dimensions of the frame including the moulding (the border around the edge).
Image opening / rebate size: the visible area inside the frame — this is the size your print needs to match.
For example, a frame sold as "A4" should have a rebate opening of approximately 21 × 29.7 cm. Always confirm the rebate size with the frame supplier before purchasing, as this can vary slightly between manufacturers.
If the frame includes a mat (mount board), the visible image area will be smaller than the print itself — the mat overlaps the edges of the paper. This is normal and the print is sized to allow for it.
Do the prints need a mat (mount board)?
– Creates a visual border that draws the eye to the image
– Keeps the print surface away from the glass, which helps prevent moisture damage over time
– Makes standard frame sizes go further — for example, an A4 frame with a mat can display an A5 print comfortably
If you choose to mat a print yourself, a common approach is a mat window that is 1–2 cm smaller on each side than the print's paper edge, so the mat overlaps the paper slightly and holds it in place. The exact mat opening is a personal preference.
The frames sold with greenfoxillustration prints are frameless mat designs — the print sits directly behind the glass.
What paper are the prints printed on, and how should I care for them?
To keep your print looking its best:
– Frame behind glass or acrylic to protect from dust and handling
– Avoid direct sunlight, which can fade any printed artwork over time
– Keep away from damp areas such as bathrooms
– Handle by the edges to avoid fingerprints on the print surface
These are archival-quality prints, but like all artwork they benefit from sensible care.
